Questions

Is my API key safe?

CostPilot uses read-only Admin API access. It can view usage reports but cannot make API calls, create keys, or modify anything in your account. Your key is encrypted and never logged.

What if I use Claude Max (flat rate)?

CostPilot still helps. You can upload your local session files to see which projects consume the most tokens, detect cache misses, and understand why your quota runs out faster some days.

How is this different from the Anthropic Console?

The Console shows aggregate totals. CostPilot breaks it down by project, session, and model. Plus waste detection, budget alerts, and cost projections that the Console doesn't offer.

What about the free Claude Usage Tracker?

Claude Usage Tracker is a great macOS desktop app. CostPilot is web-based (works on any OS), adds waste detection, budget alerts, team features, and cost projections. Different tools for different needs.

Can Anthropic just build this themselves?

They could. But platform companies rarely build the best analytics tools - Stripe has dozens of third-party analytics dashboards, AWS has CloudWatch but people still pay for Datadog. We move faster on features that matter to power users.
